NJPW G1 Climax Tournament 2017 Competitors and What might happen?

NJPW G1 Climax Tournament 2017 Competitors and What might happen?
Image result for g1 2017 NJPW
Today June 20th 2017 New Japan pro Wrestling announced the participants for NJPW annual G1 Tournament.
New Japan has announced the following 20 talents for the tournament
Togi Makabe
Michael Elgin
Juice Robinson
Minoru Suzuki
Kazuchika Okada
Hirooki Goto
Toru Yano
Hiroshi Tanahashi
YOSHI-HASHI
Kenny Omega
Bad Luck Fale
Tama Tonga
Tomohiro Ishii
Tetsuya Naito
SANADA
EVIL
Satoshi Kojima
Yuji Nagata
Zack Sabre, Jr.
Kota Ibushi
New Japan will shortly split these 20 wrestlers into 2 blocks, Block A and Block B.

Each block will consist of 10 Wrestlers and each wrestler faces each other once and points are awarded as follows
two points for a victory, one point for a draw, and zero points for a loss.
Once all matches have taken place the 2 wrestlers with the most points from Block A and Block B face off the determine the Winner of G1 2017.
The winner receives a briefcase for a IWGP World Title match at Wrestlekingdom 12 on Jan 4th 2018 at Toyko Dome.
However the Winner of G1 has to defend his briefcase on the road to Wrestlekingdom and their is a possibility that they could lose the case, if that were to happen the wrestler that defeated the G1 Champion would then become the briefcase holder themselves.
What could happen this year?
There are so may potential winners to this years G1 Climax there are so many matches to look forward to also.
I really hope that NJPW put Kenny Omega and Kota Ibushi in the same block, a match between those two at this stage of their careers could break the ratings system even further.

I'm really interested to see what my fellow Englishman Zack Sabre will do in this tournament and interested to see how he develops and evolves in this tournament. Zack goes into his first G1 representing Suzuki-Gun I feel Zack could have seen great standout matches against the likes of Sanada, Yoshi-Hashi and more.

Zack Sabre

I have a scenario in my mind of how I would like to see the G1 Tournament go and it involves Kenny Omega.
If it was me I would book Okada and Omega in separate Blocks and have both men win their blocks and have the final G1 Match be Omega Vs Okada because the story you can tell with this is incredible.
Kenny Omega won the last G1 Tournament, Kenny went all the way to Wrestlekingdom 11 but was unable to wrestle the title away from Okada. Omega and Okada then met again at NJPW Dominion and went to a 60 minute draw in one of the greatest matches in the world.
Image result for omega vs okada 2 moonsault
If Okada vs Omega is the final match in the G1 final you can tell the story that Omega has not beaten Okada in a big match situation.
Omega has to win here in order to win the briefcase to get his title shot at Okada.
If Okada wins the G1 Match he cements himself as the greatest champion of this generation and has no number one contender.
If Omega wins he and Okada are tied at 1 match each and one draw.
Omega has the briefcase and gets one final shot at Okada at Wrestlekingdom 12 and its the rubber match to decide the NJPW IGWP champion once and for all.
It will be a perfect set up and a great story whether it happens or not we will have to wait and see.

Other contenders to Win the G1 for me are Naito who after losing the IGWP intercontintal Title will be looking to gain the briefcase and have his eyes on IWGP World Title.

Kenny Omega vs Okada NJPW Dominion 2017 Redefined Pro Wrestling

Kenny Omega vs Okada NJPW Dominion 2017
Redefined Pro Wrestling

Image result for okada vs omega 2

Its been 2 hours since the end of NJPW Dominion it was a tremendous event Don Callis (Cryrus) Commentary was hilarious as always and 4 titles changed hand and we were treated to some excellent matches Naito vs Tanahashi, Young Bucks vs Raponggi Vice and Kushida vs Hiromu Takahashi but the cherry on top of the cake was Okada vs Omega 2.

I was watching in Awe on NJPW World and as the match ended I realised that I had been watching this match for 60 minutes the match drew me in I got absorbed in it and got lost in it - something that isn't done very often in 2017.

60 minute matches in this era of Pro Wrestling are very very rare.

In a era when everyone thinks that everything has to be done this moment and you have to do a million things in 5 minutes,  Okada and Omega managed to fuse together old school pro wrestling, with new school athleticism and be able to draw out the emotions of the fans in attendance and millions watching all over the world using their ideas and psychology.

They took their time and built a story which for the first part and large part of the match was Omega Working on the left knee of Okada and zoning in on that knee in order to try and defeat him.

Okada came back and knowing he was at a disadvantage took some desperate measures to keep hold of his title including pulling out a table and placing Omega on it and driving Omega through the table with and elbow drop.

Omega got hit by a series of Rainmaker Clotheslines and it looked like the end for Omega, but Kenny Tenacity made him kick out.

Then as it was looking at its worst for Kenny Omega Cody and the Bullet Club come out and Cody tries to run to the ring to throw in the towel for Kenny.

Luckily the Young Bucks managed to stop him and although Omega took a lot of punishment Omega again was able to carry on with the match with Okada looking like he was in control.

Kenny Omega was able to hit the One Winged Angel but Okada managed to get his foot on the rope and the referee had to stop the count.

Both men hit each other with every move possible Dropkicks from Okada, High Knee Strikes from Omega and with both men tiring it was looking like a war of attrition, Okada hit a rainmaker but was unable to make the cover the bell rang and the match officially ends in a time limit draw.

It has to be the best time limit draw match I have ever seen. I really wanted Omega to win and become IGWP Heavyweight Champion.

However Okada and Omega are proving they are the best of their generation and Omega is creating a legacy for himself even without the World Title Omega is making himself a true legend.

Okada is becoming one of the most dominant champions in NJPW history but this title run of his is going to be remembered for a long long time. I take nothing away from Okada he is a truly amazing, talent, wrestler and person and his talent, ability and skill shone through here again.

Kenny Omega always says that he has his idea of what pro wrestling should be and how he thinks it should be presented and how he would like it viewed. Kenny Omega is a big match performer and in my opinion is the best big match performer since Shawn Michaels that fact I don't think can be argued.

Omega and Okada are redefining wrestling in 2017 they are leading us into a new era of top class, kick ass main events and making them mean so much.

I saw on Twitter someone said "this match is another 6 stars" I tweeted Kenny Omega and said "excuse my language your match wasn't 6 stars - no its worth all the fucking stars in the sky"

Where Kenny Omega goes from here I don't know I hope a 3rd rematch is in Omega Future.

Okada looks like he is moving on to face Cody at the upcoming G1 USA specials.

One thing is for sure though Okada vs Omega 3 wont be far away in 2017

Kenny Omega vs Okada 2 - NJPW Dominion 2017 What Can We Expect?

Kenny Omega vs Okada 2 - NJPW Dominion 2017
What Can We Expect?

Image result for NJPW Dominion 2017 poster

On Jan 4th 2017 I attended NJPW Wrestlekingdom 11 live and in person at Toyko Dome, Toyko,Japan.

Me at Wrestlekingdom 11
Wrestlekingdom 11
To even be there was an amazing feeling but to see what I saw when I was there topped any show I have ever been too.

After all my expectations were high before I went.

Kenny Omega sent me the tweet below as promised me an amazing show.

I knew that Omega vs Okada was going to be good, I just never knew how good it would be - it blew my mind and is the best match I have never seen live.

Kenny Omega stated before this match that he wanted to show the world what Kenny Omega Style is - what his brand of wrestling is and wanted to show the world what he had in his head on the canvas and in front of everyone in attendance and watching across the world on NJPW World he did that and more.

The Only thing about that match I would change is the outcome.....Kenny Omega should be NJPW Champion.

Kenny Omega

I left the Toyko Dome that night knowing I'd seen the best match I'd ever witness live but not getting the outcome I wanted.

Kenny Omega put his heart and his soul into that match in January you could see following the match he could not of given anymore, there was only one thing that Kenny Omega didn't do, Hit Okada with his finishing move The One Winged Angel.

Everything happened in that match with Okada but had Okada been hit with the one winged angel would the match outcome of been any different? Could Okada overcome the One Winged Angel? After all I took Okada many attempts with the rainmaker to finally keep Kenny Omega down.

At NJPW Dominion 2017 Okada comes into the event with the Japanese crowd opinion of his seemingly changing. Okada has been dominant in NJPW since winning the NJPW World Title back in June 2016 at Dominion defeating Naito.

Okada

Okada has taken on all comers and beaten all comers for his title, he has truly become and legendary champion in NJPW and has carved out and incredible legacy for himself he has been NJPW World Champion by the time of Dominion 2017 for 357 days.

Okada though in recent months has been getting a different reaction from the Japanese crowd. When Kenny Omega returned after Wrestlekingdom 11 something different happened the crowd were cheering for Kenny Omega.

Over the past few months the trend has continued and crowd continue to cheer Omega and have at times started to boo Okada.

Japanese fans love heart, hard work and courage and there is no doubt that Kenny Omega and exhibited all of these qualities and I think that this has endeared Kenny Omega even more to the Japanese fans and imbedded himself more in their conscience.

When you see Kenny Omega you always get a great match,no matter who it is with, his attention to detail, passion and ability set him apart Kenny Omega is the best wrestler in the world right now there is no doubt in my mind.

Image result for kazuchika okada vs kenny omega
Okada (left) Omega (right)

Okada challenged Omega Following Okada successfully defending his title Vs Bad Luck Fale at NJPW Dontaku. If Okada wins here he could be one of the most dominant champions in NJPW history I believe a win over Omega here could cement him as the best of the modern era.

So you have Okada, dominant champion who has beaten Omega before coming into this match confident he can overcome Omega.

In the Opposite corner you have Kenny Omega, the best wrestler in the world who wants what he feels is rightful his, it is his prize and would validate him and it would cement his legacy in NJPW from being a Junior to G1 World Champion to NJPW World Champion - it has never been done before but Omega is on the verge of completing it - this is what will drive him on what will be a very grueling match.

So what do I think we will see in this match?, I want to see What Kenny Omega does best go out there, do his style, show the world his wrestling philosophy and what he believes wrestling should be, I will See Kenny Omega wrestle his heart out, that I believe 100%

Image result for kenny omega before wrestle kingdom 11

I want to see Okada do what he does best hit hard, move fast and be the great champion we know that he is, to take the fight to Omega and the doubters like myself that believe that Okada cant do it. If Okada uses that to push him on there is no telling how this match up will end.

I'm not looking for another 6 star match, those matches come around one in a lifetime and cant be replicated but if anyone can do it twice in a year its Omega vs Okada - they are that good.

I cant be in Osaka for Okada vs Omega 2, I have to be at home but I'll be watching from my Reclining sofa here in England UK, NJPW airs at Breakfast time here in Sunday Morning so I'll have a Bacon Sandwich in my hand watching the best in the world Kenny Omega do what he does best and I cant wait.

I promised myself in 2017 I would go out more and see more wrestling promotions one on the top of my list was Progress Wrestling.

Progress have been doing some amazing things in UK Wrestling and I wanted to see it for myself and luckily for me, they decided to run a show while I was in Manchester.

I managed to get 2 standing tickets for me and my friend Sabrina and we are ready to go.

We get to the venue and luckily the weather holds out while we are queueing outside and then we go into the 02 Ritz.

When I got into the venue the room was nearly full already, I noticed immediately that their seemed to be such an energetic atmosphere. we find a place to stand and shortly after the show is ready to begin.

My Thoughts

I have seen Progress Wrestling Online and with this being my first Progress Show I had high expectations and they were met and surpassed.

Progress (In the best possible way) felt like a drug I want more of.

The Atomsphere at a show is so important and the crowd really do help make these shows, The chants and appreciation and respect for the wrestling and the wrestlers, owners, backstage staff was Tremendous.

As my first Progress live event I was made so welcome and fans were great to talk too and I even managed to Speak to Jim Smallman, Part owner of Progress and our ring announcer for the event - he was great to talk to and massive thank you to him for giving me time to talk to him.

Image may contain: 2 people, people standing and closeup

The matches themselves surpassed what I had in my mind to see so much great talent all on one card was such a treat. I was amazed to see how much the fans hate British Strong Style (Dunne, Bate, Severn) they really are despised by the Progress wrestling faithful.

I have been thinking about this for awhile and I cant pick a favourite match from this card - I truly enjoyed it all and all in different ways from the entertainment for Sweet Jesus, to the Craziness that is Session Moth, to the technical ability of Matt Riddle to the high flying ability of Mark Andrews there is something here for everyone.

One thing is for sure I will be coming back to Progress Wrestling very soon, without doubt and without question.

As I speak tickets for Manchester in July 23rd 2017 went on sale and they sold out within a couple of hours - the demand to see this is huge and I can see why.

Progress Wrestling........I'll see you again very very Soon

Thank You for Reading
